Something I’ve gradually noticed in my career as a writer, gaming-centric and otherwise, is that scoring systems don’t always work the way you think they do. For example, if you look at an assortment of adventure games on Metacritic, the majority of them will have a higher score from critics than users. This isn’t because users like the games less (usually), but because there are often far more users leaving scores than critics, so the user score is more heavily-weighted with a wider range.
