The Pokémonanime is a relic of an age where certain series just kept producing new episodes in perpetuity. Between 1997 and 2013, Pokémon was releasing new episodes every week, even when transitioning into a brand-new series, ala Dragon Ball into Dragon Ball Z. These days, the vast majority of anime being made are seasonal series that release a small batch of episodes before going back on break. This keeps the quality high and (in the best of cases) animators from getting overworked.
