All bosses in How to Fish and how to defeat them
Read the TDGN Briefing →
Progression in How to Fish largely depends on hunting the bosses and the minibosses as some of them will grant you access to all the islands. If you want to finish the story, you’ll have to focus on NPC quests. All these quests involve taking down certain bosses to progress to the next location.
In this guide, I will discuss every boss and mini-boss to defeat in How to Fish.

How to defeat all bosses in How to Fish
Our adventure begins at the Lighthouse, and defeating the Spider Crab allows us to grab keys for the boat.
Spider Crab

Defeating the Spider Crab is an easy task. You can summon it using an empty beer can, and it does not have too much health.
The trick is to stay close to it so that it charges in for the attack. Once it’s rushing towards you, move to the side to dodge the incoming attack. The Spider Crab will be stunned, and you can get three or four hits. Rinse and repeat this process until the spider crab is dead.
Don’t go too far away because it will jump and become unpredictable. Moreover, the jump is also going to waste a lot of time, giving it the chance to escape.
The Old Pike

The Old Pike can be summoned using the Beginner Boss lure. It’s one of the easiest bosses I encountered. The Pike tries to flop around you and hit you with its tail. While getting hit can be damaging, the amount is not significant. As long as you have purchased the shotgun for summoning this boss, you should be okay.
Giant Piranha

While the Old Pike might not be very dangerous, the same can’t be said about the Giant Piranha. This is a modified version of the ordinary Piranha that you can catch with the customized leech lure. It’s part of the quest that grants you access to the next island, so you cannot avoid it.
The Giant Piranha’s biggest danger is the minions that it appears with. The smaller piranhas might not do a lot of damage on their own, but they are dangerous as a group.
Before killing the Giant Piranha, you should try to shoot its minions until you have reduced their number. This will make it easier for you to target the boss and do more damage. When the piranha jumps at you, jump in a sideways direction to avoid taking damage. Its bite can be dangerous if left unchecked, so have some healing items for dangerous situations.
Blue Shark

You will need the Standard Boss Lure to summon the Blue Shark. The Blue Shark is required to activate the Grill, and it charges at you in a spinning pattern. You’ll want to keep your distance; if it’s close, it’s almost guaranteed to hit you.
To kill the Blue Shark, the shotgun is an absolute necessity. I even got a bullet upgrade in before summoning it on the second island.
Pufferfish

To summon the Pufferfish, you’ll need a customized Carrot bait. You can receive it from the tourist sitting on the island under the tree. Catch a Needlefish, and you’ll get your required bait.
The Pufferfish rolls towards you to do melee damage. However, it’s predictable and slow, which gives you an advantage. Once you unload two shells into it, run quickly to the opposite direction. Shoot it again, and repeat the process. The key is to keep your distance without getting cornered.
Tuna

To catch the Tuna, you’ll need a Professional Boss Lure. Since Island 4 is small, it’s nearly impossible to avoid the Tuna when it charges in for the attack. The best weapon against it is the Shotgun.
There’s no strategy against it. When I faced the Tuna, my shotgun had three bullet upgrades, so killing it wasn’t difficult.
Albatross

Once you lay down the caught Tuna on the ground, the Albatross will appear. The Albatross is a true challenge to conquer. On one hand, it always keeps long distance, which makes it difficult to aim accurately. Secondly, its poop attack can do a lot of damage.
First, stay under the cover whenever the Albatross is at the furthest distance. It means that it will rain poop all over you. The best windows of attack are right after it has finished its poop rain and when it soars to the sky after charging in. Having the sniper rifle is the best strategy, but you’ll have to make your shots count.
Bowhead Whale

Whether it’s the normal or the mutated version, there’s no special strategy against the Bowhead Whale. When you see the whale in the air, ran as far as you can. If you get caught, you’ll mostly die by the body slam.
Secondly, stock as many healing items as you can. Having those items will save you once you take damage.
Thirdly, purchase the Assault Rifle and get every available upgrade. In short, you’ll want to use the best weapon in its best-possible version to stand a chance. The Mutated version is more dangerous as it has fallen lava from its body that can kill you instantly.
