RPGamer Round-Up: August 16 – August 23

Welcome to the latest edition of RPGamer’s round-up column, where we look back at some of the articles that we have posted over the intervening period. This article is designed to give reminders of some interesting content and stories that our readers might have missed.

The Brigandine series continues its revival with Brigandine: Abyss. Ryan Costa finds that despite some technical hiccups, the game will be a hit with tactical RPG fanatics.

Voidling Bound is a creature collector blended with third-person shooter gameplay. Kay Vandivert notes that it is an inventive twist on the creature collector and worth checking out.

Metaphor Games’ narrative RPG Celestial Return blends cyberpunk and cosmic horror. Ryan Costa explores it poignant and personal journey, wrapped around the whims of disposable dice.

Steins;Gate has returned with a new remake in the form of Steins;Gate Re:Boot. Alex Fuller reports that its visual refresh and refined narrative make it the best version of what remains one of the best visual novels out there.

Tabletops may be for board games, but they’re also for serving feasts. Michael Baker rolls the dice and places his pieces well so that he doesn’t becomes the feast in Feed the Scorchpot.

After the success of Pokémon Pokopia, The Pokémon Company and Koei Tecmo have expanded it Bubbly Basin, a new underwater town in the Pokémon spin-off. Elena Ng finds that the first installment in the game’s paid expansion pass makes waves, further positioning the spin-off as a life sim worth diving into.

Sony held a dedicated State of Play presentation for Phantom Blade Zero. The twenty-minute video offers a deep dive into the action RPG’s gameplay and story.

After over two years since the cancellation of its previous project, Spearhead Games is returning with Ever After Again: A Stories Adventure. The follow-up to 2016 action RPG Stories: The Path of Destinies is in development for PC and consoles, with a demo out now.

GungHo Online Entertainment released a new update for Nihon Falcom’s Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter to improve the game’s localisation. The companies also released a demo for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, which lets players go through the first chapter and transfer save progress to the full release.

Square Enix released new details and media for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World. The latest update introduces some more characters and locations, plus a useful in-game artifact.

Game Science released a gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui. The fifteen-minute video shows footage from an early development build for the follow-up to Black Myth: Wukong.

Resolution Games announced that the third campaign for Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked will release as DLC next month. It will be joined by the Xbox Series X|S version of the game.

Bandai Namco announced that Code Vein II’s Mask of Idris DLC will release next month. It will be joined by a free Version 2.0 update for the game.
