Throughout the decades, the FPS genre underwent so many changes that masterpieces of yesteryear eventually became unplayable. A 2002 FPS game doesn't need to hold up in 2026 to be considered great, but very few folks play a classic simply to experience history. They still need to be fun enough to enjoy... and, in very rare cases, they might be even better now than they were at launch.
