Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 locks in October premiere date
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the second anime adaptation of CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 featuring an all-new self-contained story in Night City, is going to launch on Netflix this October. A new teaser trailer, again packed with beautiful animation and visceral visuals, confirmed the series’ definitive release date.
As seen in the third official teaser for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the series is premiering on Netflix on Oct. 30 this year, or in just over two full months. From what we can see in the trailer, the story will once again heavily focus on the phenomenon of cyberpsychosis, a mental breakdown supposedly induced by chipping too much chrome and turning yourself into a glorified cyborg.
The story itself seems completely separate from the first season, itself also dealing with cyberpsychosis a lot, though it does seem to share a lot of character archetypes and story beats with it. The main character this time around appears to be focused on the utter insanity on the streets of Night City, looking to document everything he can before every sign of evidence is wiped clean by the city’s ruling megacorporations.
Revenge, cyber modifications, and the corporatist hellscape of Night City are going to form the thematic core of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, with infinite references to in-game items, locations, characters, and a whole lot more.
Edgerunners is definitely one of my favorite cyberpunk series of all time, and not just because it’s attached to CDPR’s best-written game. It’s simply such an old take on the genre, inspired mostly by 1980s Japanese market scares and cyberpunk aesthetics, resulting in this retrofuturistic look that we don’t see much of anymore.
