Guild Wars 3 Details the Kodan

ArenaNet published its second blog post on the playable races in MMORPG Guild Wars 3. Following the humans, the latest post introduces the bear-like kodan. While players of Guild Wars 2 may be familiar with them from the isles of Janthir, they have notable historical differences to the population of Guild Wars 3.

The kodan originate from the Far Shiverpeaks, and are noted for their faith in Koda the Creator, believed to be the sole creator of the world of Tyria. They are known for being capable fighters thanks to their ferocity, intelligence, and conviction. A direct connection is believed to exist between Koda and the kodan’s leaders, called Voices, who are chosen tributes said to be attuned to the mind, thoughts, and will of Koda. The kodan believe that their duty is to duty to watch over all of Tyria and balance its natural harmonies. The kodan found in Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds came from the followers of a Voice who abandoned her calling and rejected Koda.

Prior to Guild Wars 3, a call spreads across the kodan of Janthir only heard by small number of its populace, who feel an inexplicable pull towards the land of Orr. News of a calamity in Orr’s Tughra Basin causes some of those who heard the call to publiclly reaffirm Koda’s will and cause another schism among the kodan, with those answering the call heading towards Orr and building a settlement there. Despite some initial friction when they encounter the Vaelwardens, a guild founded to protect the Vael spirits and the lands they inhabit, the kodan’s similar ethos leads to them establishing a long-running alliance and see them joining up when the Vaelwardens start recruiting. As a kodan, players swear themselves to the Vaelwarden banner under their interpretation of Koda’s will; carrying on their forebears’ duty as Tyria’s guardians.
