GTA 6 pre-order estimates paint a very PS5-flavored picture along with nearly half a million in revenue already

It looks like Sony’s marketing deal with Grand Theft Auto 6 is already paying big dividends, according to pre-order estimates.

A new Sensor Tower report on sales and revenue data says that 77 percent of players who have pre-ordered GTA 6 have done so on PlayStation 5, with just 23 percent on Xbox. In total, around 4.38 million copies have been sold thus far, with 3.38 million of those coming on PS5.

Each week, Sensor Tower updates its sales tracker for GTA 6, which launches on Nov. 19 to impossibly high expectations for both gamers and shareholders. But when it comes to this particular title, it appears that the majority of gamers don’t mind shelling out the big bucks.

A recent report said that around 90 percent of pre-orders are for the game’s $100 Premium Edition, which includes access to a bunch of singleplayer content like cosmetics and weapons, as opposed to the standard $80 edition.

And this is all without any actual gameplay being shown. Previous trailers have included a mix of cutscenes and gameplay, but direct feed footage of how the game looks and plays has not yet been released and we’re now about three months away from the game launching, which is wild to think about.

That all changes next week, though, with the Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look showcase on Netflix, the first of its kind when it comes to a live-streamed showcase partnership between a game publisher and the massive streaming service. What will be shown is still a secret, but gameplay footage, interviews with developers, and specific info about the sequel is expected.

GTA 6: An Extended Look streams live on Netflix on Aug. 27 at 2pm CT, and we will be tuned in (along with seemingly half of the world, at least). I’m willing to bet that pre-order and revenue numbers may jump a bit more once we’ve actually seen the game in action.
