RimWorld Hits A New Low Price, But You’ll Only Have 24 Hours To Grab It

If any game could be called the most interesting, chaotic, and engaging PC title of all time, RimWorld would definitely be in the running. What may look like a blend of classic base management and colony sim mechanics is simply hiding the absolutely wild things that the game can offer, with intelligent AI storytelling (not that kind of AI) that will keep your world constantly changing. Yet somehow, one of my colonists always gets eaten by a rabies-infested squirrel. It rarely gets any major discounts – Steam has never had one over 20%--but for 24 hours only, it’s at a huge 29% off.

At its very core, RimWorld manages to capture the heart of what makes the best simulation games tick. You pick a location for your colonists to survive in, sending them down in pods as they try to survive harsh weather, enemies, and more. As you gather resources, you’ll quickly expand your base, managing to outlive lethal situations and poorly timed events in order to make a colony worth being passionate about. Thankfully, and sadly, it’s not as simple as that.

Each colonist has relationships with the others, and every time you load a save or start a fresh colony, it’s a new, exciting story waiting to be told. It’s a canvas that you’re painting, but one that the AI storyteller is actively changing as you do. The RimWorld community is alight with stories that range from heartbreaking to utterly bizarre, from colonists frustrated with base fires looking to find a peaceful place to sleep, to literal shotgun weddings as traitors attempt to ruin weddings. If you can imagine the weirdest scenario in your head, chances are, RimWorld’s got you beat.

The ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ rating on Steam from over 118,000 reviews isn’t because the game is a solid simulation experience--although it does offer that--but because of the chaos that can unfold. Every playthrough feels unique, and after hundreds of hours, plenty of players have yet to get bored. If anything, it requires more time to truly enjoy it – it took me about 10 hours to get into the rhythm and simply enjoy what happens instead of trying to perfect my base.

Despite being on Steam for almost eight years, RimWorld has never seen a deeper discount than 20% on Valve’s marketplace. However, right now, you can get it for 29% off at Fanatical, with a deal that only lasts a single day. If you’ve been waiting for the opportunity to give it a try, now is the best time--I don’t know when another deep discount like this will come up.

And, best of all, if you enjoy the core experience, Fanatical also has deals on the expansions, with each at its lowest price ever. These add countless more hours to the original RimWorld, and they add to the layers of storytelling that can be told, ranging from a horror focus with Anomaly to the planet-faring expeditions of Odyssey. Personally, I strongly recommend the former--who doesn’t want to watch some blind colonists fight off a giant flesh creature?
