2003 was an absurdly good year for movies. Alongside The Lord of the Rings' epic conclusion, The Return of the King, audiences got everything from Finding Nemo and Lost in Translation to Kill Bill Vol. 1, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl, and X2. There was an argument to be made for greatness in almost every genre, but Return of the King dominated most of the pop culture discourse as the culmination of one of cinema's most ambitious trilogies.
