Rockstar owner Take-Two Interactive suffers massive financial blow amid GTA 6 leak fiasco

Rockstar Games has been going through a lot these past few days. A hacker, or someone posing as such, is actively leaking Grand Theft Auto 6 just a week before its big Netflix reveal. Scenes like gameplay, cutscenes, music, and more are shown, and the so-called hacker even claims to have the entire game on their machine.
And, naturally, the market panicked and started selling off Take-Two Interactive’s stock, leading to a massive loss in valuation, priced around $2.8 billion. Wts chief executive, Strauss Zelnick, is a huge marketer for GTA 6, having done a ton of interviews to promote the Netflix deal and, well, the game itself.

This was first spotted by Insider Gaming, which writes that T2 lost some $15.29 in value per share, for a grand total of $2.83 billion in decreased valuation. While Take-Two Interactive’s market cap remains quite strong at over $43 billion, this nevertheless represents a five percent drop caused by a single miscreant running wild on the internet.
The leaker, apart from claiming to have the entire game, put out another clip where they shot at a wall and spelled their name on it, proving that they are, to at least some extent, running their own build of GTA 6 rather than leaking old test footage. As you might recall, a similar situation happened with Insomniac when it suffered a major hack, leading to hackers uploading entire builds of Wolverine and Spider-Man 2 on pirate sites.
Whether that’ll happen with GTA 6 is unknown, though I’m fairly certain this hacker is probably wanted by the biggest law enforcement agencies in the world at the moment. Rockstar is relentless when it comes to this sort of thing, and for a good reason.
Leaks are a plague on this industry, and our proclivity toward consuming them is destroying gaming as we know it and killing any and all excitement that might have remained.
