New Animal Crossing Meets PaRappa the Rapper Game on Steam Had My Head Bobbing
My latest journey through Steam in search of another great upcoming indie game to get excited about eventually led me to Clay Game Studio and SOEDESCO's Mirth Island, which I can only describe as a charming little mixture of Animal Crossing and PaRappa the Rapper. Comparing this game to PaRappa the Rapper might not mean much to you, but the standard modern comparison drawn when it comes to rhythm games is Guitar Hero, and Mirth Island just isn't that. Rather, it's closer to PaRappa in its character-driven approach to rhythm gameplay, where each song is either tied to a quest or an interaction with its NPCs. Plus, PaRappa is widely credited with helping establish the rhythm-game genre as we know it today, so it's due the recognition it rarely gets anymore on account of its age.
