Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is dragging us back to Night City this October
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 finally has a Netflix release date, with CD Projekt Red confirming that we will be returning to Night City on October 20, 2026.
The date was revealed alongside a new trailer for the anime, and if you were hoping Night City might have become a slightly nicer place to live since we last visited, you clearly haven’t been paying attention.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will once again be a 10-episode standalone story set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, created by CD Projekt Red in collaboration with Studio Trigger. Rather than directly continuing David Martinez’s story from the original series, however, the sequel introduces an entirely new cast whose lives become increasingly tangled together amid the usual violence, chrome and spectacularly poor life expectancy of Night City.
The new trailer leans heavily into the action but also gives us a better taste of the revenge and redemption themes CD Projekt Red says will drive the new story.
You can watch the new trailer below.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 was first announced in July 2025, accompanied by the fairly definitive declaration: “David is dead. But Night City lives on.” The second series is being directed by Kai Ikarashi, who worked on the original Edgerunners as well as SSSS.Gridman, with Kanno Ichigo serving as lead character designer. Bartosz Sztybor returns as showrunner, story writer and producer.
That means anyone hoping for some miraculous reversal of the first show’s ending probably shouldn’t get too excited. This isn’t really Edgerunners Season 2 in the traditional sense, but another story taking place in the same grimy corner of the Cyberpunk universe.
It’s probably the right decision, too. The original Cyberpunk: Edgerunners worked precisely because it told a compact, self-contained story rather than attempting to stretch its characters out indefinitely. It also became one of the most successful extensions of Cyberpunk 2077 beyond the game itself, to the point where returning to Night City with a completely different group of doomed souls feels like considerably safer territory than trying to mess with what came before.
CD Projekt Red describes the new series as a “raw, human story of revenge and redemption,” and the latest footage certainly suggests Studio Trigger hasn’t toned anything down for the return trip.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 premieres exclusively on Netflix on October 20, 2026.
