Walmart denies banning comedian Damon Darling for buying customers’ groceries

Walmart has pushed back on claims that comedian Damon Darling was banned for buying groceries for strangers, saying his charitable giveaways were not behind the decision.

Darling is known for filming himself paying for shoppers’ groceries and handing out cash. However, a viral video posted on August 7 showed an employee asking him to leave an Ohio Walmart.

During the exchange, Darling argued that local police and a woman he believed was the store manager had allowed him to film. The employee disputed his claims and said the woman was not the manager.

Darling eventually left to avoid further trouble. Viral footage later showed a police officer serving him with a trespass notice, which the comedian described as a lifetime ban from Walmart.

The incident sparked backlash from fans, with some calling for a boycott.

“If Walmart cancels Damon, then we all cancel Walmart,” one person wrote. Another added: “We should all boycott until they let him back in.”

In a statement to TMZ, Walmart denied that Darling was removed for helping shoppers.

“We deeply care about our associates and customers. Mr. Darling has repeatedly violated our policies through disruptive behavior and trespassing, unrelated to any charitable giving,” a spokesperson said.

TMZ noted that some of Darling’s older Walmart videos showed him throwing items, pretending to fall in front of customers, and pouring milk over himself. Darling said his content has since evolved and suggested the earlier stunts may have contributed to the decision.

Despite the backlash, the comedian urged his followers not to boycott the retailer.

“I don’t want anyone boycotting Walmart. I don’t want people to stop shopping at Walmart,” he said, adding that he plans to find another way to continue his giveaways.

This is not Darling’s first confrontation while filming an act of kindness. In July, a man threatened to call the police as Darling handed out money and gifts in a shopping center parking lot.
